My Story

Let me tell you a little story about how these Word Dot-to-Dot puzzles came to be. It all started when someone very close to my heart was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. I wanted to find ways to help her in school where she struggled to stay focused on tasks like spelling.

I realized that having to actively write out each letter was taking up her mental bandwidth - by the time she got to the end of the word, she'd forgotten what it was! So I had an aha moment: what if the letters were already on the page? She could just connect the dots and focus on spelling the word itself.

That was the little seed that grew into these unique Word Dot-to-Dot puzzles! They're a fun twist on regular dot-to-dots, forming random geographical shapes instead of pictures.

The Problem:

Now let me tell you about the problem I was trying to solve. Traditional school methods just don't work for some kids. When children can't engage, they get bored and restless in class. Spelling and reading become discouraging, for both the student and teacher.

My solution was to provide a variety of ways to learn the material. What is a Word Dot-to-Dot Puzzle?

A Word Dot-to-Dot Puzzle is a dot-to-dot puzzle with either letters or words by each dot. The student is to connect the dots in the correct order based on the clue given. The clue may be an image, a fill-in-the-blank sentence, or a definition -- depending on the subject and learning level of the student.

How could I use these puzzles in my classroom or with my child?

These puzzles can assess the current level of the student's letter recognition abilities as well as the current level of understanding of phonics and recognition of sight words. They can also be a fun way to practice recently learned vocabulary words, spelling list word, and sounds without the added effort required to write each letter individually.

What is included?

You will receive a PDF file from which you can print individual pages or the all the pages. These pages will include Levels 1 and 2 Word Dot-to-Dot Puzzles featuring the Primary Colors.

Each page is one puzzle for one of the primary colors.
The number of dots arranged in a circular pattern with a rectangle in the center is a clue to the word to be spelled.
There is one puzzle per page for one word.
Level 1 puzzles include not only the image, but also short broken lines indicating how many letters are in the answer. You can instruct the player to write one letter per short line if you wish. Or it can simply be another hint to help them figure out the answer.
Level 1 puzzles also include the answer near the bottom of the page. This helps your beginning students learn the correct spelling as they connect the dots beside each letter to spell the word for the color.
Level 2 puzzles do NOT include the answer at the bottom of the page. However, the first letter has a ring around it to get them started right. The broken lines are still at the bottom of the page to help them, but do not give the answer.
Instructions are included at the beginning of each level to help you and your students get started right away! The students and parents will love it!

How can I use these puzzles?

You would make a copy of each page for each word you want the student to practice spelling or to answer the question. These puzzles are for use in your home or, if a teacher, in your classroom only.
